Summary

Haemorrhagic septicaemia (HS) is an acute, fatal, septicaemic disease of cattle and buffaloes caused by specific serotypes of the bacterium Pasteurella multocida. In this monograph an attempt has been made to bring together all the current information on HS. This includes the global distribution and economic importance of the disease, a review of the causative organism (Pasteurella) and its relationship to HS and other animal diseases of economic importance, and the mode of infection, clinical signs and pathology, epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment and control of HS. Several chapters are devoted to the types of vaccines currently available, vaccination programs and vaccine research and development respectively.
