Summary

Detection and identification of the causal fungi of heartrot disease is fundamental to effective disease management strategies for heartrot pathogens in tree plantations. Additionally, knowledge of fungal species aggressiveness is a prerequisite to decay risk prediction in relation to site characteristics, and can aid prediction of consequences of heartrot for wood product quality.
