Upland farming systems in the Lao PDR: problems and opportunities for livestock

Improvements in disease control are desperately needed making the 1997 Vientiane workshop organised jointly by the Department of Livestock and Fisheries (GoL) and ACIAR, extremely timely. The main objectives of the 70 participants were to review the experiences of research and development projects engaged in livestock production in the uplands of the Lao PDR, to analyse the potentials for improved management and government assistance to upland farmers and to make recommendations for current and prospective research and development projects.
