Summary

Wheat in subtropical Asia is a potential minor crop although consistently high yields have not yet been achieved. Sterility is one reason for this and initial work on the problems centred on boron deficiency. While this has been confirmed at some sites, other sites presented more complex problems. Work on environmental factors affecting sterility in wheat concluded that conflicting results of temperature effects may be related to low vapour pressure deficits. Furthermore, low vapour pressure deficits might also inhibit boron supply to the reproductive parts of wheat. These proceedings are the results of a workshop held in Pokhara, Nepal from 18-21 September 1995.
