ACIAR and climate change

While ACIAR does not have a dedicated "climate change" research program, climate change issues are addressed in a number of ACIAR's programs, particularly the natural resource management cluster (Land and Water Resources, Soil Management and Crop Nutrition, Forestry), but also in Crop Improvement and Management, Livestock Production Systems and the Policy programs. Much ACIAR work on pests, diseases and weeds is also highly relevant to climate change adaptation. Some project clusters directly tackle climate change issues (e.g. work on climate forecasting and on carbon sequestration) while others (such as work on better crop water management) indirectly look at potential future climate change impacts.

Dr Andrew Ash, of the CSIRO Climate Change Adaptation Flagship, recently gave a presentation to ACIAR's Policy Advisory Council on climate change impacts and adaptation implications for agriculture in the Asia-Pacific region.
