Research that works for developing countries and AustraliaABC Rural reporter visits Indonesia
ABC Rural reporter Sarina Locke spent two weeks travelling to Java, Bali and West Timor in April 2009 where she interviewed many of the scientists and farmers involved in ACIAR-funded projects. In Java, Sarina covered stories on food security, citrus greening disease, fruit fly control, shrimp production and managing teak plantations. In Bali, she reported on Australia’s role in helping to control a recent rabies outbreak. In West Timor, Sarina visited ACIAR projects on improving cattle production, and supplying better fodder in dry times. While in Indonesia, Sarina was interested in evaluating how this work translates to raising the standard of living for farmers and their families. Sarina travelled to Indonesia with the assistance of the not-for-profit Crawford Fund, which promotes international agricultural research and development.
