The Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) is excited to announce the screening of Food Bowl’s PNG episode on ABC Australia Plus Network, Wednesday 17 December, 2014 (Port Moresby time  – 6.30 pm, 9.30 pm, 18 December 00.30am).

‘Food Bowl’ is “about how agriculture, science and the art of farming come together to lift lives out of poverty ensuring a safe food future”.

Food Bowl is described as ‘agri-science meets Lonely Planet travel guide’ – and features the human stories that emerge from ACIAR projects; stories of farmers, of researchers in partner counties and of researchers in Australia, and their work improving livelihoods in the Indo‑Pacific.

Hosts Leesa and Ananth take a tour of research projects located in scenic East New Britain and New Ireland.

Our hosts find out how research at the Coco Coconut Institute is supporting the revival of the PNG cocoa industry. They meet Odelia Virua Taman, survivor of the devastation wrought by the Cocoa Pod Borer pest. Odelia is now Secretary of the Tavilo Farmers’ Cooperative Society Ltd, and an early adopter and leader in the local cocoa industry.

They learn about PNG’s National Fisheries Authority, supporting the recovery of a sustainable PNG sea cucumber industry, with a visit to the local community in Limonak. Leesa dances up a storm with locals at the inaugural mother of pearl fashion parade.

Don’t miss this vibrant and engaging show.

‘Food Bowl’ is an Australia Plus TV partnership with ACIAR.
