IARC Abbreviation

IRRI

The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and Australia collaborate through the provision of core and project funding from Australia to find sustainable ways to improve the wellbeing of poor rice farmers. IRRI's mandate directs operations within the goal of protecting the environment as a key component of projects. Australia contributes AUD750,000 (in 2005-06) of core funding, as well as commissioning and supporting a suite of projects aimed at addressing important agricultural challenges to increased rice production. Almost half the world's population is dependent on rice, wither as a part of, or as their main food source. For more information about IRRI and its work, see its website, http://irri.org.

IRRI produce regular publications that give an indication of their current activities and future plans, including an Annual Report which looks that their activities over the calendar year.
