While ACIAR does not have a dedicated “climate change” research program, climate change issues are addressed in a number of ACIAR’s programs, particularly the natural resource management cluster (Land and Water Resources, Soil Management and Crop Nutrition, Forestry), but also in Crop Improvement and Management, Livestock Production Systems and the Policy programs. A range of ACIAR projects focus on adaptive responses to biotic and abiotic stresses, and has relevance to climate change adaptation, including work work on pests, diseases and weeds. Some project clusters directly tackle climate change issues (e.g. work on climate forecasting and on carbon sequestration) while others (such as work on better crop water management) indirectly look at potential future climate change impacts.
